Mission Statement
The mission of the NCHELP Financial Aid Professionals Committee (FAPC) is to provide the NCHELP Board of Directors with advice and counsel on higher education financing issues. Members of the FAPC are able to provide unique perspectives on these issues because of a) their role as the gatekeepers of financial aid, b) their day to day contact with students, student borrowers, and graduates, and c) their integral role in student administration within the larger academic setting. Changing dynamics in higher education, including changes in higher education finance, require that these matters be constantly reviewed, whether as part of Reauthorization or simply part of a regularly scheduled review, and FAPC members play an important role in this regard.
The FAPC will help NCHELP achieve its mission of continuing to ensure the integrity of the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and will help to ensure adequate and affordable access to quality higher education for all students at all levels.
Strategy
Specifically, the FAPC may achieve its mission by participation in one or more of the following activities:
Providing another resource for direct feedback on FFELP through interaction with students, student borrowers, and graduates, with the possible result being to not only identify but also to promote any needed changes in higher education finance.
Serving as a resource pool by providing the institutional and financial aid officer perspective through participation at various meetings throughout the year.
Providing an institutional perspective on many of the policies facing higher education in Reauthorization, including loan limits, consolidation, and debt management.
Meetings and Operation
The NCHELP Financial Aid Professionals Committee usually meets once or twice a year, most often in conjunction with conferences such as the Fall Legislative Conference.
Committee Members
FAPC members are sponsored by NCHELP member organizations, with their terms currently being renewed on an annual basis. For information, please contact Karen Lanning, 202.822.2106, klanning@nchelp.org
